Facebook , just another social network going around the web. Spreading like a virus. Once you're in it there's no going back. Facebook is an extremely addicting but fun website. It's just an plain ol' ordinary social network but its just addicting somewhat.
Facebook was founded at the year 2004 , around February by Mark Zuckerberg and his roommates in Harvard University (if i recall). They had initially wanted to make the website popular and used around campus but soon later on was spread around the city and is used at many colleges. It later on added more support and lessened the age restriction and later reduced to a minimum of age 13.
To start off Facebook , users must register with an e-mail to have access to the website. Other users can use this e-mail to find other users much more easily. Additionally , users may join groups that share the same interest as an individual to have the latest information about what they may be interested in. As an individual who is a fan of Japanese Culture , i highly recommend joining groups that share the same interest as it brings lots of information about what is about to come and such.
At the date 28 October 2003 , while attending Harvard as a sophomore , he wrote a program called FaceSmash. The program was primarily used to compile photos from the facebook creators to compare who is "hotter" (sounds ridiculous but this is according to wikipedia). To make this possible , Zuckerberg hacked into protected areas of Harvard's computer network and copied private ID images. During that time , Harvard did not have such a program called "Facebook" so hacking through the school's information was difficult. Facesmash attracted about 450 visitors and compiled a total of around 22,000 photos around the campus itself.
Unfortunately , six days after launched , 3 seniors from Harvard accused Zuckerberg for stealing their idea to build an even greater social network. The three complained to the main Harvard website and the newspaper began an investigation. They later sued Zuckerberg for around 1.2m in shares. After that incident , Facebook slowly grew larger in population and users. Users from all around the world started using the website including countries that are not known (Latvia wherever the heck that is for an example).
WELL , i hope that settles it for my essay about this darn social network , personally i'm not a big fan of Facebook but i still regularly use it just for the latest news about the newest animes , communicate with friends and of course , STALK SOME GIRLS!!!. That's basically all there is to know about facebook and its history and how people started using it.
